I’ve spent a lot of time in the medical world, lately, and never experienced a medical procedure so thoroughly explained as was my total hip replacement with Dr. Andrew Wickline, his staff, and his book, “Less Swelling, Less Pain”. Choosing Dr. Wickline was the best decision of my life. The book details the decision process, the surgery, and the weeks of recovery and drug therapy, all organized for me to recognize and understand every step. From my first consultation to the 6 week check-up I knew what to expect, why, and what I could do about it. Any question? Concern? Look in the book.
If your knee or hip are giving you trouble, ask for Dr. Wickline.

Dr. Wickline’s “Less Swelling, Less Pain” guide book is the ultimate in giving his patients step-by-step instructions on how to successfully rehabilitate from total knee/total hip surgery. It was as if all the questions I may have had related to my recovery were already anticipated and, as such, were answered with every turn of the page.
I, as a Registered Nurse of 40 years, and as a post-total knee replacement patient, highly recommend this guide book, and the philosophy that accompanies it!
Kudos to Dr. Wickline for the obvious time, effort, and expertise that went it to creating this reference for his patients l!

Dr. Wickline’s book was beyond helpful. From the pre-surgery information to the day- by- day expectations, this book is a must for anyone having hip surgery. This gave me piece of mind that I was progressing as expected, or better, in my case. I experienced little to no swelling as I did the icing of the joint for the recommended times, with a simple large ice pack purchased online. I followed my customized medication list and did not require any narcotics for pain. I followed the book to the letter and had a wonderful, virtually, pain free experience. No need to go it alone as there are personal testimonials in the book as well, that help you appreciate where you are in your recovery.

This book is very helpful and informative. It will guide you through your joint replacement and give you a better understanding of what is happening to your body. Being able to understand things definitely helps with your recovery. If you follow the guide, things will be so much easier and you will heal at an amazing pace.

I used the Swift Path book as my surgery was on November 25, 2024. The book was my “Daily Bible”…from beginning to end it gave me a sense of what my experience would be before, during and after my surgery. Dr Wickline gave me a clear vision of what to expect on each day. It was a great comfort to know that I was where I should be during my recovery. Following his protocol it was a wonderful feeling on my six week follow up appointment with him to hear him say, “I’ll see you in a year!”. He is an amazing doctor!

My knee replacement surgery was October 28. I received my journal/guidebook at my pre-op appointment 2 weeks earlier. Tons of valuable information, and a simple way to chart your post-op progress. Lots of information on what to expect day to day. I followed the book as best I could and was grateful that none of my issues or potential stressors were surprises. Everything is covered. I have 2 friends who had total knee replacements around the same time with different surgeons and different or no clear pathway to follow. One was 12 weeks of Pt. before she got to a 120 degree knee bend and one still cannot straighten her knee completely. Following Dr. Wickline’s book, I was flat knee to 115 degree bend in two weeks with no formal Pt. Dr. Wickline has done both my hip replacements as well as my knee. I would never consider a different surgeon. Follow the book and you should have an uneventful but successful surgery and recovery experience.

Knee replacement is an adventure that changed my life…here is the guidebook! It answers most questions, covers options, diet, medications and exercises. It also dignifies the patient by having them be part of the process and then explains why that brings the best outcome. This book relieved a lot of anxiety for me and I would highly recommend. Just follow the book!

So thankful my Mom had this book for her journey post-total knee replacement!
Swelling and pain has been her two biggest headwinds, this book has helped so much. A lot of data points here and objectively measurable “things to do”, versus “just do less!”
Mom told me yesterday, “I wish he was MY doctor.” Can you get any more of an endorsement than that?
Dr. Wickline has created a recovery “magnum opus” here, hope this gets to EVERY patient getting this procedure done.
Thank you!!!

This book was an invaluable source for me, my family/ champion during my postop recovery. There really was no issue that came up postop that was not addressed in the book. The timeline for increased pain, swelling and emotional distress was spot on. Letting me know that “down days” emotionally or physically were to be expected were a great source and helped me understand that even though I was not having the best day, that it was within the normal recovery curve. There are so many examples and testimonials that gave me a great gauge to compare myself to as well as show me that it was going to get better. Each day is spelled out and keeps things simple and straightforward. I don’t think I could have recovered as well without this book. I would encourage anyone to read it twice before surgery, and then after week 2 look a few days ahead to see what to expect.

I found the book to be incredibly insightful and informative. Everything I needed was clearly laid out and well-explained, so I never felt the need for additional help. One of the main reasons I chose Dr. Wickline was because of this book, the Mend program, and his innovative approach.
The protocols he follows are exceptional—other doctors should take note! I am beyond pleased with my surgery, the healing process, and the overall outcome. Dr. Wickline’s guidance and expertise made a significant difference in my recovery, and I’m so grateful for the care I received.

This needs to be “the gold standard purchase” of any person looking to get a knee replaced. I purchased this for my Dad so he could comprehend the procedure prior to, and Dr Wickline sets extremely clear expectations day by day/hour by hour of what to expect. This is what a patient needs to read to set expectations for a successful post procedure outcome. Having been an Ortho nurse myself, I know how difficult rehab and surgery can be, if the patient doesn’t understand what to expect. This easy read set it up in a very clear manner and is a great reference for any patient, caregiver, or even a Provider looking for education to disseminate to their patients.
Just get it!

This is the most helpful book I’ve ever read before a surgery. Dr Wickline explains everything before, during and after your surgery. At 2 weeks I had 120 ROM and “they” said it couldn’t be done. Recovery rate with this book is so much quicker and less painful with all he does!! All Drs. should follow this book. Thank you Dr Wickline. Oh, I had both knee replacements.
